ABOUT KEVIN KATICH
Biography
Welcome to my website! I am a drummer, percussionist, music teacher, audio engineer, songwriter, arranger and producer based in Los Angeles, CA. I have been playing and studying music since 1997, playing professionally as a drummer/percussionist since 2006 and teaching since 2008. In addition to playing and teaching, I have my own recording studio, Dreaded Viking Studios, where I’ve worked as a recording, mixing and mastering engineer since 2015; recorded drum and percussion tracks for clients; and write, arrange, produce and record music for my own band, Dark Moon Tragedy®. In addition to drums, I also play a multitude of percussion instruments such as congas, timbales, djembe, bongos, darbuka, cajon and (basic) tabla.
I started playing drums at the age of seven after being cast as Animal from The Muppets in a school play, though my parents tell me I was always banging on various household items in rhythm to whatever music was playing in the house going all the way back to infancy. Throughout my teens, I studied drums with Mark Craney (Jethro Tull, Jean Luc Ponty, Gino Vanelli, Dweezil and Frank Zappa, Tower of Power), John Molo (Bruce Hornsby, John Fogerty, Moonalice), Gregg Bissonette (David Lee Roth, Maynard Furgason) and Tony Pia (Edgar Winter, Brian Setzer Orchestra, Doobie Brothers). I have played, recorded, toured and filled in on stage with many bands and artists over the years including Edge of Paradise, Living Dead Stars, Void Vator, Thunder City Shout, Adrenalin Red, Brutal Force, XDAO, Sawtelle, Holy Boy, Suns of Defiance, Chuck Chilla, Lettrice Lawrence, The Bruce Sanborn Band, John Fogerty, Gene Simmons, Reba MacIntyre, Stephen Stills, Gnarls Barkley, Solomon Burke, Stewart Copeland, Billy Steinberg, etc. I have also performed in the following stage musicals as a drummer and percussionist: The Rocky Horror Show, Cabaret, Children of Eden, Grease, Bye Bye Birdie, L’Innocent, and the award winning Fringe Festival production of The Devil and Billy Markham. I also laid down some drum tracks for the Cobra Kai: The Saga Continues video game in 2020.
I stylistically feel most at home playing rock, classic metal and reggae, but am also totally comfortable and have a lot of experience playing jazz, funk, soul/rnb/neosoul and various world genres. Please email me at kev.katich@gmail.com if you’d like me to track or play live drums/percussion for you, record you and/or mix or master your recordings for you.
